Meta Inc. lost the appeal against a decision of the San Marino DPA, which fined the social media for the illicit diffusion of personal data of about 12,700 citizens of San Marino via the social media Facebook. The hack of data happened in 2019, when personal data of about 533m individuals were stolen and published on the internet. The President of the San Marino DPA, Umberto Rapetto, noted in an interview to the Italian national media agency ANSA that if other competent DPAs will apply the same sanctioning Meta might be called to pay up to EUR 166bn.
