Tech Crunch reports that an Indian government website was allegedly exposing the personal identifiable information (PII) of potentially millions of Indian farmers. The PII in question is the Aadhaar numbers which are a confidential 12-digit number assigned to each Indian national by the national identity database. The number is used as proof of identity for a variety of purposes, and although not strictly secret it can be considered similar to the American Social Security or British National Insurance numbers.
