Bio

María Rosa Fabara Vera, Managing Partner at BUSTAMANTE FABARA, leads the firm’s Privacy and Personal Data Protection practice, alongside other key areas of the firm. In 2026, Leaders League ranked BUSTAMANTE FABARA as “Excellent” for Data Protection in Ecuador, reflecting the firm’s growing standing in this increasingly strategic field.

With more than 25 years of experience, María Rosa advises national and international clients on privacy and data protection, intellectual property, competition and antitrust, regulatory and corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions, public procurement, and public-private partnerships.

Her practice is particularly distinguished by her extensive experience in intellectual property and technology-related matters, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, plant varieties, new technologies and unfair competition, particularly in complex litigation. This multidisciplinary background enables her to approach privacy and data protection matters within a broader regulatory, commercial and technology context, particularly where data, innovation and business strategy intersect.

She also has substantial experience advising companies in highly regulated sectors, including pharmaceuticals, insurance and prepaid healthcare, as well as construction, infrastructure and project finance.

María Rosa is consistently recognized by leading international legal directories. Chambers & Partners ranks her Band 1 in Intellectual Property and Competition/Antitrust, as well as Band 3 in Corporate/Commercial. Legal 500 recognizes her as a Leading Partner in Competition & Antitrust, Corporate & M&A, Dispute Resolution and Intellectual Property, while IFLR names her Highly Regarded in Corporate and M&A and Project Finance, as well as among its Women Leaders. She has also been named a Trademark Star and Patent Star by IP Stars, included among the Top 250 Women in IP, and ranked Gold in Trademark by WTR 1000. In 2026, LACCA Approved recognized her as a Top Private Practitioner in Corporate and M&A.

Beyond her legal practice, María Rosa serves on the boards of directors of several private corporate groups and has held significant leadership positions within Ecuador’s business community. She has chaired and served on the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorian-Colombian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for several terms, served as President of the Federation of Binational Chambers of Ecuador (FECABE) on multiple occasions, and chaired the Council of Chambers and Associations of Production of Ecuador.
