In a report entitled How business executives perceive ransomware threat published by the cybersecurity firm Kaspersky, the company interviewed 900 respondents throughout North America, South America, Africa, Russia, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The respondents were in senior non-IT management roles at companies having between 50 and 1,000 employees. The report contains interesting statistical data including that:
- 60% of business executives and C-level persons believe that the media makes out that ransomware threats are bigger than they actually are;
- 64% of organizations have already been the victims of ransomware attacks. Amongst these, 79% paid the ransom to their attackers;
- 88% of executives from companies that have previously been hit by ransomware said they would pay if attacked again; and,
- only 42% of companies would contact both a law enforcement agency and a cybersecurity incident response service if an incident occurs.
