WhatsApp / META has announced that it will appeal the Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced fine of 5.5 million euros for violations of EU GDPR transparency requirements and for forcing the WhatsApp users to consent to the processing of their data in the Terms of Service. The violations refer to the violation of the legal basis posed by Article 6 of the EU GDPR related to consent of users, and the lack of transparency was in violation of Articles 12 and 13 of the GDPR. WhatsApp has been given ix months to bring its data processing practices in compliance with the GDPR.
