The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has just released its 2021 Annual Report 2021. One of the key topics of the Report are international data transfers and in fact in 2021 the EDPB adopted updated recommendations as a consequence of the Court of Justice of the European Union’s decision in the so-called Schrems II case. Digital policy is another topic addressed in the Report, as well as new legislations on privacy matters across the continent. Looking forward, in 2022 the EDPB will work on guidance on topics such as legitimate interest as a legal basis and the use of facial recognition by law enforcement authorities, and optimisation of cooperation with counterparts and enforcement.
