The European Parliament has voted to widen the European Police Agency (EUROPOL) powers to collect and process personal data obtained from tech companies, including telecoms and internet suppliers and social media, and to also collect and analyse data from countries outside the EU. The proposal related to this power expansion give EUROPOL the possibility to develop algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) systems capable of making automated decisions and developing predictive policing models.
